Technologies for Injection Safety
Each year, more than 16 billion injections are administered worldwide and an estimated 40 percent are administered with reused, unsterilized injection equipment. In developing countries, immunization and some therapeutic programs have been proactive in introducing technologies and practices for injection safety, including autodisable (reuse prevention) syringes, sharps disposal boxes, and needle-removal devices and systems. This fact sheet describes PATH's work to enable safe injections and vaccine waste management.
