The HPV Vaccination in Japan: Issues and Options

In April 2013, the government of Japan added the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine to its list of routine immunizations, yet in June 2013 the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare suspended its recommendation for the vaccination. This report examines how Japan’s response to HPV vaccine concerns has been perceived across the globe and illustrates examples from other countries that have faced similar challenges. The report concludes with recommendations to the Japanese government regarding the vaccine.
