Human Papillomavirus Vaccines: WHO Position Paper, May 2017
This article, published in the Weekly Epidemiological Record, summarizes the World Health Organization's recommendations on the inclusion of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines in national immunization programs. This update replaces their earlier recommendations from 2014 and 2009 to incorporate recent developments concerning HPV vaccines, including the licensure of a 9-valent vaccine and recent data on vaccine effectiveness, and provides guidance on the choice of vaccine. New recommendations are also provided regarding vaccination strategies targeting girls only or both girls and boys, as well as vaccination of multiple birth cohorts.
