Effect of Jet Injection on Infectivity of Measles, Mumps, and Rubella Vaccine in a Bench Model
This article, published in Vaccine, reports the results of a study that examined the effect of jet injection on the integrity of measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine (MMR), a live attenuated viral vaccine. The authors evaluated vaccine delivery via three models of disposable-syringe jet injectors with different ejection forces. Results indicate that jet injection forces exerted on live attenuated MMR vaccine do not compromise vaccine infectivity. This was the first study to assess the impact of jet injection on the viability of a live attenuated viral vaccine; the model and protocol used can be applied to other studies to evaluate the impact of jet injection delivery for other live virus vaccines.
