Meeting of the Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization, October 2017 – Conclusions and Recommendations: Typhoid Vaccines

This article in the Weekly Epidemiological Record reports on outcomes and recommendations from the October 2017 meeting of the World Health Organization’s Strategic Advisory Group of Experts (SAGE) on Immunization. Pages 741 to 743 report on SAGE's recommendation for typhoid-endemic countries to introduce typhoid conjugate vaccine into routine immunization programs for infants and children over six months of age as a single dose. Additionally, SAGE recommended catch-up vaccination campaigns when feasible for children up to 15 years of age and prioritizing introduction in countries with the highest burden of disease and/or a high burden of drug-resistant typhoid.
